Register for a Library Card

Bettendorf residents of all ages may apply for a library card online or in person with proper identification and proof of residence. A parent or legal guardian showing valid ID must co-sign for children under the age of 14. Individuals must be present to be issued a library card. Proper identification sources include:

  • Photo ID such as a valid driver’s license, non-driver ID, military or school ID, or passport.
  • If the photo ID does not include verification of current local residency within the City of Bettendorf, supporting documentation is required. Supplementary forms of identification may include but are not limited to: mail received at the residence and addressed to you, automobile registration, rental/lease agreement, or utility bill.

Individuals who are unable to provide proof of residence at the time of their initial visit may be eligible for a New Borrower card, providing limited access to the library collection until proof of residence is confirmed.

To learn more about other card types available to library users, please read our Circulation Policy

Most Bettendorf Public Library cards are valid for three years and will automatically renew. If your account does not renew, please visit the library for assistance.

Lost card? No worries! Give us a call at 563-344-4175 or stop by the library to let us know you’ll need a new card issued. In the meantime, we’ll block your library account so no one else can use it.

Library Account Access & Management

Want to place a hold on an item? Or double check a due date? You can manage your library account through our mobile app or online through the library’s catalog!

The Bettendorf Public Library mobile app is available through the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

To access your account from your computer, you can click on the link at the top of our website or click on the login link in the library’s catalog

You will need your library barcode and your PIN. Your barcode is the 14-digits number on the back of your library card, entered without spaces. Your PIN is initially set as the last four digits of your phone number listed at the time of your card application.

Once logged into your library account, you can see what’s checked out to your account, place holds, create reading lists, and so much more! Stop by the library’s service desk or call 563-344-4175 for assistance with your account.

Loan periods, renewals, fines, and fees:

Most Bettendorf library items are checked out for a 3-week period, with a few exceptions:

  • 1-Week Loan: DVDs, Blu-rays, hotspots, and admission passes
  • 2-Week Loan: Lucky Day collection, no renewals
  • 6-Week Loan: DIBS (Book Discussion Kits)

Renewals: With some exceptions, all eligible RiverShare library materials will automatically be renewed three days prior to their due date. Eligible items are materials that do not have a hold and have not already been renewed. Depending on account preferences, an email or text message will be sent prior to the due date to notify the account holder if the item(s) can or cannot be renewed.

Overdue Fines: As of January 2023, the Bettendorf Public Library and RiverShare member libraries have eliminated overdue fines on most library materials. Collections with low quantities/high demand or hard-to-replace items will continue to collect overdue fines at a rate of $1 per day late. These collections include reference materials, hotspots, and admission passes.

Fees for lost or damaged items: Accidentally drop a book in the bath? Or your toddler hid a board book somewhere in your house and you still can’t find it? For lost or significantly damaged materials, you are encouraged to contact us at info@bettendorflibrary.com or 563-344-4175 for information on our payment process. (And don’t worry, things happen! We don’t judge!)
