Modern day libraries are community hubs, and thanks to library supporters like you, the Bettendorf Public library continues to grow and provide top resources to cardholders and a welcoming space for all ages to gather, learn, and explore. Whether you donate to the Friends or Foundation, volunteer your time, or advocate on our behalf, your support helps us achieve our mission, vision, and values every day.

    Volunteer and Material Donations

Want to help us enhance our programs and services by volunteering your time? We’re always looking for dedicated individuals to assist with everyday collection maintenance, programs, and more!

      Adult Volunteer Program

Fill out our volunteer application and submit it to Outreach Coordinator Cody Noble at cnoble@bettendorf.org

      Teen Volunteer Program

Fill out our volunteer application to explore all opportunities or attend a Teen Leadership Committee (TLC) meeting. TLC is a group of teen volunteers aged 14-17 who are passionate about making the library a fantastic place for their peers. Under the leadership of Teen Librarian Katie Jackson, they plan events and programs just for teens. Join us for monthly meetings to brainstorm ideas and finalize plans while gaining valuable experience in teamwork, leadership, and civic engagement. Volunteering of any type earns you service learning hours for school or organizations, and library staff is happy to provide reference letters for job or college applications. Contact our Teen Librarian at kjackson@bettendorf.org.

Please see our Volunteer Policy for additional guidelines for volunteering at the library.

      Donate Books and Materials

The library accepts donations of used books, magazines, puzzles, DVDs, and Blu-rays in good condition. Most donations are sold by the Friends of the Library through their annual fall book sale or in their bookshop (located off the library’s lobby), though items that meet the library’s selection policy may be added to the collection.

Donations are accepted during the library’s operating hours, and are collected in bins across from the elevator in the library’s lobby. Library staff can provide a receipt for your donation at the Information Desk upon request. Library staff cannot determine the value of donations.

To learn more about material and other library donations, please refer to the Gift & Donor Policy

Join the Friends of the Library!

Did you know that through the bookshop sales and the annual fall book sale, the Friends of the Library raised over $54,000 for the Bettendorf Public Library in 2024? This funding supported over 56 projects and programs requested by library staff.

The Friends of the Library is a group of passionate library volunteers who sort through donated materials to either add to the library’s collection or sell back to the community. They also manage their own bookshop!

        Bookshop Hours:

        • Monday–Thursday: 10AM–4PM
        • Saturday: 11AM–3PM

You can support the Friends by becoming a member. Membership runs for one year and grants you access to member-only sales. Bookshop member-only sales are typically held the last Friday of each month, allowing members to shop the fresh stock before it is available to the general public. The Friends also hold a member-only preview sale for their large annual fall book sale.

Join now by filling out this form and returning it to the library. Your support truly makes a difference for both the Friends and the Bettendorf Public Library!

        Your Donation Matters

Every contribution, donations, volunteering, or becoming a Friend of the Library, plays a crucial role in sustaining and expanding the programs and services that make the Bettendorf Public Library a cherished institution in our community. Your support helps us provide enriching experiences, innovative resources, and a welcoming space where people of all ages can learn, create, and connect. Together, we can continue to inspire curiosity, foster lifelong learning, and build a stronger, more vibrant community. Thank you for your library giving and for being an essential part of our journey.
