The first lecture in a four-part series by Dr. Art Pitz.

Lecture 1: "Iran: At the Center of China’s Belt and Road Initiative”

China's incredibly comprehensive vision for a new Silk Road is worth paying attention to, especially since it cannot be completed without Iran as its centerpiece geographically.  We'll look at what that vision entails and how it impacts Iran.  Let's explore the dimensions of this plan and its implications.  Already there is regular freight train trade between China and Iran.

This is the first in a four-lecture series. The complete lecture series is as follows:

Lecture 1: "Iran: At the Center of China’s Belt and Road Initiative”
Monday, September 9th at 6:30 pm
Bettendorf Library (2950 Learning Campus Dr.)

Lecture 2: "The Deal of the Century: A Mirage or Not?"
Monday, September 16th at 6:30 pm
Davenport Library-Eastern (6000 Eastern Ave.)

Lecture 3: "A Look at the Persian Gulf States: Qatar, Bahrain and UAE"
Monday, September 23rd at 6:30 pm
Bettendorf Library (2950 Learning Campus Dr.)

Lecture 4: Lecture 4: "Israel at a Crossroads: Domestic Challenges"
Monday, October 7th at 6:30 pm
Davenport Library-Eastern (6000 Eastern Ave.)

Dr. Pitz has provided the Quad Cities with informed commentary on contemporary Middle East issues. He has studied and taught on the modern Middle East for many years, both at home and overseas, including as a Fulbright Specialist.

This program is a partnership between Bettendorf Public Library, Davenport Public Library, and the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities. It is sponsored by the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library.
