Learn about a slice of WWII and radio history with radio historian Steve Darnall.

Join us for this virtual edition of Community Connections. We will learn about a slice of United States and radio history with radio historian Steve Darnall. World War II was the first war in history to receive almost continuous coverage on radio. The presentation examines how radio rose to the challenge of life during wartime, with sounds clips from news broadcasts, presidential speeches, entertainment shows, programs designed to boost morale (both at home and among the armed forces) and more!

Steve Darnall is the host of the weekly radio show Those Were the Days and the publisher of Nostalgia Digest, both of which are devoted to chronicling the "Golden Age" of entertainment. His writing credits include Marvel and DC Comics, the Chicago Tribune and the National Radio Hall of Fame.

Community Connections is sponsored by the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library.

This program will take place virtually via GoToMeeting. Admission is free, however, advance registration is required to receive an invitation and password to join the event.
