Please join us for a music program highlighting the Jewish influences in rock and pop music of the 1950s, 60s, and 70s.
Since the 1950s, Jewish singers and songwriters have been instrumental in the Rock and Pop music scene. "Hound Dog," sung by Elvis Presley, "Save the Last Dance," and "Going to the Chapel" were all written by Jewish songwriters. Come and hear music from Bob Dylan, Neil Sedaka, Billy Joel, Simon and Garfunkel, Burt Bacharach, Carole King, and more!
Tony Hoeppner has been playing music since he was sixteen years old. He currently is performing with several local music groups, including “The Ellis Kell Band” and “The Whoozdads.” In addition to performing, he also teaches guitar and performs on his own. Sheryl Hassell-Bennett is a graduate of Bradley University with a degree in music education. She is currently the cantorial soloist at Temple Emanuel in Davenport, and music teacher in the Temple religious school. For the past several years, Tony has teamed up with Sheryl performing at multiple nursing homes throughout Quad Cities.
This program is sponsored by the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities as part of its 2019 Jewish Cultural Series.
