Join us for a discussion of Isaac Asimov's science fiction novelette, "Nightfall."
One of science fiction's best known authors, Isaac Asimov published "Nightfall" in the September 1941 issue of Astounding Science Fiction. "Nightfall" was a turning point in Asimov's career, and, in 1968, the members of the Science Fiction Writers of America voted it the best science fiction short story written prior to 1965. It is set in a distant world that orbits six suns; the concept of night is unknown to the planet's denizens, and they consequently have an intense fear of the dark. What will happen when a recently discovered moon creates a total eclipse?
For our June, July, and August meetings, the Contemporary Books Discussion Group will be reading short works of science fiction to complement 2019's Summer Reading Program theme: A Universe of Stories. Copies of the readings are available at the Information Desk.
