Join us for a discussion of Octavia Butler's science fiction novelette, "Bloodchild."
Winner of the 1985 Nebula and Hugo awards for Best Novelette, "Bloodchild" depicts the relationship between the beings on a distant planet and the humans who have sought refuge there. Gan, an adolescent boy, describes the home where he lives with his mother, brother, and sisters, as well as with T'Gatoi, the government official who belongs to the planet's native species, the Tlic. Through Gan's eyes, we see the history of his family's connection with T'Gatoi and the special duty that Gan has been raised to fulfill.
For our June, July, and August meetings, the Contemporary Books Discussion Group will be reading short works of science fiction to complement 2019's Summer Reading Program theme: A Universe of Stories. Copies of the readings are available at the Information Desk.
